About this tool
How it works
The app samples camera pixels and finds the nearest colour in an offline reference palette. Lighting and camera processing affect results.
Example
Sample a painted wall to get a descriptive colour name plus its approximate HEX and RGB values.
Private by default
The calculation or transformation happens in this browser. There is no account, and the values you enter are not sent to NaughtyBear Labs.
How to use Color Name
- Allow camera access or choose an existing image.
- Aim the sample area at a reasonably even patch of colour.
- Read the nearest plain-language name, HEX value, and RGB values, then compare under different lighting if needed.
Common questions
- Will it identify an exact paint colour?
- No. It finds the nearest colour in an offline reference palette; lighting, white balance, and camera processing affect the sample.
- Are camera images uploaded?
- No. Sampling happens locally in the browser.
