Protocols Privacy Policy
Effective 8 September 2026
This policy explains how Naughty Bear Labs handles information in the Protocols Android app (package com.theciceronemethod.protocols). Protocols is a separate app from The Cicerone Method. This policy covers the current free version; features and services described in Cicerone's policy do not automatically apply here.
1. Information used by the app
Protocols saves the routines you create, reminder times and repeat days, favourite practices, session progress, completion history, reflections and preferences in its Android app storage. These records let the app restore a session, show your history and schedule your chosen practices. The current app does not provide an account or synchronisation service and does not send these records to Naughty Bear Labs.
The current build does not include advertising, payment processing, an AI coach, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. Google Play and your Android device may separately process installation, device, diagnostic or store information under their own settings and policies.
2. Notifications and Android permissions
If you enable notifications, Android displays reminders containing the practice name and scheduled session information. Depending on your phone settings, this may be visible on the lock screen. You can control that visibility and turn notifications off in Android settings.
Alarms & reminders access allows the app to request precise reminder times. Without it, Android may delay a reminder. The app also receives device restart and time-change events to restore schedules. It does not request your contacts, location, camera or microphone.
3. Speech services and external links
If you choose to listen to a guide, Protocols passes the written guide text to the text-to-speech engine selected on your device. It does not pass your reflections or record your voice. Your speech provider may process text online or download voices according to its own configuration and privacy policy. You can use the written guide without speech.
Evidence sources, this policy and other external links open in your browser. Those websites and their hosting providers handle the information associated with your visit under their own policies. This policy page is hosted by Vercel, which may process request information such as an IP address and browser details to deliver and secure the page. Other Naughty Bear Labs pages are covered by our website privacy policy. See also Vercel's privacy policy and Google's privacy policy.
4. Support and information you send us
If you email support, we receive your email address and the message and attachments you choose to send. We use them to respond and resolve the issue. Please avoid sending sensitive reflections unless they are needed for your request. Email providers process correspondence on our behalf and may process it in other countries.
5. Retention, deletion and your choices
You can edit or delete reminders in the app, disable speech and notifications, and clear the app's storage in Android settings to remove its saved records. Clearing storage also removes your schedules and session history. The app disables Android backup for its records. Uninstalling normally removes app storage; device behaviour and copies you make separately are outside our control.
We retain support correspondence for as long as needed to answer your request and meet applicable obligations. Contact us to request access, correction or deletion of personal information we hold, or to raise a privacy concern. Rights available to you depend on applicable law. We cannot retrieve app records that have not been sent to us.
6. Security and children
We use Android's app storage protections and restrict the information the app passes to other services. No device or service can guarantee absolute security. Protocols is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us, contact us so we can address it.
7. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the app's data handling changes, with a new effective date. If accounts, paid features, analytics or other services are introduced, the policy and relevant in-app notices will explain the changes before those features process information.
